Partnering for Impact: Our Long-Term Relationship and Watching Dreams Take Shape
Updated on December 20, 2024

As Traditional Medicinals celebrates its 50th anniversary, one theme
resonates deeply: the power of partnerships and the lasting impact of
community collaboration. From its earliest days, the company has fostered relationships that go beyond mere transactions, focusing on the well-being of the people and places that provide the herbs for our teas.

One such example lies in the arid Thar Desert of Rajasthan, India, where the bright yellow senna flower blooms. The leaves are a key ingredient in Traditional Medicinals' Smooth Move teas—have been cultivated for decades. In these communities, the challenges of farming in a desert environment are immense,
particularly for women, who not only tend to the fields but also shoulder the responsibility of fetching water and caring for their families. Despite these hardships, the women farmers of Rajasthan have become leaders, transforming both their communities and the land they cultivate.

Much of this progress is owed to WomenServe, a nonprofit founded by Nioma
Narissa Sadler, Goodwill Ambassador at Traditional Medicinals. WomenServe was created to empower women and girls in the Thar Desert by addressing the root causes of poverty and gender inequity. By focusing on critical issues such as water access, education, and economic opportunity, WomenServe works to free women and girls from the daily struggles that limit their potential.

The partnership between Traditional Medicinals and WomenServe goes beyond
financial support. It involves a shared commitment to right livlihood and
community empowerment. Together, they have helped women in the region adopt
organic farming practices, which not only improve the quality of the senna they grow but also lead to healthier communities and higher market prices for their crops. The shift to organic farming is just one of many ways these initiatives have fostered long-term sustainability.

Through this collaboration, entire communities have seen tangible changes.
Women who once spent hours each day collecting water now have the opportunity to attend school, earn an income, and pursue leadership roles within their villages. The work in Rajasthan is a living example of how Traditional Medicinals' values of sustainability and social responsibility are not just words but are brought to life through thoughtful and enduring partnerships.

As the company looks toward the future, its commitment to these communities remains steadfast. The story of the senna farmers in Rajasthan is just one of many that highlight the company's broader mission to create positive, lasting change in the world. This anniversary is a celebration not only of 50 years of herbal wellness but of the people and communities who have helped make that journey possible.
