Hard Decisions For a Brighter Future: Navigating Challenges With Integrity

One of the most significant moments in Traditional Medicinals' history came in the early 1970s, when the company took a stand against the construction of a nuclear plant on the Sonoma Coast. At the time, blending herbal wellness with activism felt like a natural extension of the company’s values. This particular moment, however, became a pivotal turning point in shaping the company’s identity and future direction.

Outrage spread across the community when it was revealed that PG&E was digging at Bodega Head, intending to build a nuclear plant. People from all walks of life, both young and old, locals and visitors alike, came together to protest. The energy of the demonstrations was palpable, with protesters chaining themselves together to make their voices heard. Out of this movement, an organization called SoNoMore Atomics was born, serving as the focal point for the protests.

Traditional Medicinals felt compelled to contribute to the cause, leading to the creation of two special edition teas—cheekily named Nuclear CasualTEA and RadioactiviTEA —with all proceeds going to support SoNoMore Atomics. It was a bold and creative move, reflecting the company's spirit and commitment to standing up for what was right. The teas were an immediate hit, flying off the shelves and raising thousands of dollars for the cause. Ultimately, PG&E backed down and abandoned their plans to build the plant in Sonoma County. It was a victory for the environment, the community, and the company.

This experience not only reinforced the importance of standing by core values but also strengthened the bond between Traditional Medicinals and the community. It became a defining chapter that continues to influence the company's commitment to ethical action and environmental stewardship today.
